Introduction: Domain Eukarya Kingdom Fungi Phylum Basidiomycota
Class included: Agaricomycotina Pucciniomycotina Ustilaginomycota
4
What is it? It was named Basidiomycetes in 1959 Filamentous fungi
comprised of roughly 25,000 species Most= mushrooms Shelf mushroom & puffballs Others include asexual species, yeast, etc It is found in virtually all terrestrial ecosystems and aquatic environment
5
Characteristics Can’t identify morphological characteristics because they excessively vary from each other Clamp connections= hyphal outgrowth= unique but not all Fungi group produce it Production of ballistospores Produced by basidia, hyphae, yeast cell, etc. Disperse spores to air Similar features with Ascomycetes
6
Usage Some edible Produce toxins visualize the cytoskeleton
Ex) paper production-> wood to decay
7
Impact human affairs and ecosystem functioning. Symbiotic lifestyles
Positive= carbon cycle=decomposer Negative=frequent attack Symbiotic lifestyles Bad=diseases Good=help plant obtain mineral nutrients, and they receive sugars Others=insects
