Introduction It seems like 2016 Summer Olympic Games have just finished in Rio, Brazil, but we already cannot wait for 2018 Winter Olympics start in Pyeong Chang, Korea. What makes this event so special? Maybe it is the motto, “Swifter, Higher, Stronger!” (“Citius, Altius, Fortius!”) Probably, it is the white flag with five interlocked multicolored rings that symbolize five continents. However, mostly likely, it is the whole idea of the games: let’s stop fighting and compete in sports instead.

Ancient olympics The first Olympic games held in 776 BCE, and held in Athens, Greece. Olympic started because of Zeus, the leader of gods. Just men who are not slaves could compete and watch Olympic in past. Also, armies and men with weapons couldn’t enter Olympic grounds, because there was a rule in past about all wars had to stop for three months during Olympic training and the games. When the game started, players play without clothes. Most visitors and athletes slept in small tents. In past, winners got olive leaf crown. In, 393 BCE, Olympics stopped because it became violent, for example, slaves fought with wild animals. No one played Olympics over years.

Modern olympic At the end of 19th century, a Frenchman, Baron de Coubertin, suggested an idea to recreate the Olympics again. The first Olympic Games was held in 1896 in Athens, Greece. The first torch relay was in 1928, from Athens to Berlin. Torch relay is a kind of running with torch in your hand. In modern Olympics, there are lots of sports like swimming, golfing, sailing, cycling, boxing, and so on. So, there are 26 events in Olympics. The winner of each Olympics gets honor and medals. Also, home countries of the champions could give some nice things to them, for example, they can give money, cars, even houses! People liked Olympic Games so much, that they organized Winter Olympics.

Winter Olympics Winter Olympics have been created in 1924 and were held in Chamonix, France (probably because of Pierre de Coubertin). The last have been held in Sochi, Russia and the next Winter Olympics are going to be held in Pyeong Chang, South Korea. In Winter Olympics there are many disciplines like: skiing, snowboarding, speed skating etc. Winter Olympics happen every four years and last two weeks.

Conclusion Being in Olympic Games is a good time to get athletes feel proud. However it is no an easy job to be in Olympics. First, there are some materials that help athletes to prepare well. For example, a good pair of shoes does not just protect the feet but can cut down the stresses on ankles and knees. This is important for athletes to prepare well. They must keep thinking about their body and diet. They are not allowed to eat much fast food in order to keep their health. Also, they need training from a coach to win a medal or get a good results. When a person from your country wins a medal, people feel proud of them. There is a famous swimmer in Korea, Park Tae Hwan, he has never got under the 3rd place. Also, there is a really famous skater, Kim Yeon Ah, she has also never got under the 3rd place. Lots of people including my family were proud of them. People from other countries are also proud of their champions. I think the big reason why Olympics is important is that athletes can keep healthy and audience can enjoy watching them and seeing them with a proud, smiley face.
