1
Aim: How do we interpret velocity-time graphs?
2
Constant Velocity Vehicle
Once again, consider the following vehicle. What will the velocity-time graph look like for this moving vehicle?
3
Velocity-Time Graph showing constant velocity
The velocity is constant. Therefore, it does not change.
4
Accelerating Vehicle Consider our accelerating vehicle again. What would its velocity-time graph look like?
5
Velocity-Time Graph for Accelerating Vehicle
The object is accelerating. The velocity increases at a constant rate.

Matching d-t graphs with their corresponding v-t graphs

7
Physical Meaning of Slope for a Velocity-Time Graph
We know that slope = rise/run. For a v-t graph, this means slope = ∆v/∆t=a. The slope of a velocity-time graph is the acceleration.

Interpreting Velocity-Time Graphs
What is the acceleration of the rocket from: t= 0s to t= 1s t=1s to t=4s t=4s to t= 12s
