In what classes have you had in-class writing exams? What were you asked to do? Analyze, summarize, critique? Make an argument? Compare and contrast? What is difficult about these writing exams? What is easy?

3 Class Discussion How do you all feel about timed-writings and why do you feel that way?

At your table, each person take turns reading the directions and each of the steps.

5 Analyzing a Prompt According to the handout, what are students to “do” for the prompt mentioned on #5. What organizational words are used?

6 Writing Your Own Prompt
Using at least 2 words from Student Handout 1.2b, you and a partner will create a writing prompt about something you know. Be prepared to share. Example: List four reasons for going to college. Explain why one of those reasons is most important.
