During the research stage of any media product, such as in the news industry, access to this data can be requested from a variety of sources including public sector organisations. Data Protection Act: If you collect data about individuals during the creation of a media product then the DPA must be adhered to or your could face a law suit. Libel: You could face a lawsuit if the media product is produced containing information about someone which is untrue or damaging to their reputation.
