This handout will test your knowledge to see what we already know about film trailers

4 Note: What are film trailers?
A preview, advertisement, or commercial for an upcoming film The term comes from the fact that initially these were played at the end of films… Trailers consist of EDITED shots into a compilation to entice viewers to see/buy the film Some trailers use “special shot” footage that is created specifically for a trailer and is not even in the film

Trailers must be under 3 minutes This is protected by law MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) There are typically 3 parts to film trailers Part 1: Lays out the story line Part 2: Extends the story and provides a dramatic climax Part 3: A visual or audio compilation that intends to make an emotional connection (usually a recognizable song or sweeping orchestral music; may present a problem/issue/danger for the character)

In groups of 1-4 (make sure someone has a phone that can play trailers), come up with a list of your Top 10 trailers that you just viewed in the Scavenger Hunt activity. Try and make a list that you can all agree on.
