- simple diffusion and carrier-facilitated diffusion don’t need energy (passive)
- active transport requires energy to reverse diffusion (active)

ATP for energy to move
things in the opposite
direction, or against the
concentration gradient

-There are three types of environments cells can find themselves in with regards to osmosis:
-hypertonic: more solute and less water
-hypotonic: less solute and more water
-isotonic: equal balance of water and
solute on inside and outside of cell
-often, tonicity refers to the environment outside the cell

-organisms typically thrive best when they are in isotonic environments

5. Diffusion and Osmosis Comics
Write a three panel cartoon for both diffusion and osmosis. You can do it in any way that you want, but make sure you include explanations of what is happening in each panel.
Diffusion:
Osmosis:
