Executive Branch GA’s Executive Branch is made up of many different offices and departments. The Executive Branch is the largest of the three branches in Georgia. The governor is the leader of the Executive Branch. The governor has to be at least 30 years old, US citizens for at least 15 years, and a GA resident for at least 6 years. The governor may run for and serve a second term, no more than 8 consecutive years.

Executive Branch If the governor dies the Lt. Governor becomes acting governor. If something happens to the Lt. Governor the Speaker of the House becomes acting governor. FORMAL powers are powers the state constitution gives the governor. INFORMAL powers are powers the governor has but they are not written in the constitution. Some are the result of laws.

Lieutenant Governor The lieutenant governor has to be at least 30 years old, US citizens for at least 15 years, and a GA resident for at least 6 years. Elections for the Lt. Governor are held every four years, and they serve four years. There is no limit on number of terms a lieutenant governor may serve. -The Lt Governor is different from the Vice President in that he may NOT be of the same political party as the governor.

Lt. Governor The Lt Governor runs independently not with the governor.
Nov Sonny Perdue was a Republican and Lt Governor Mark Taylor was a Democrat. Lt Governor becomes acting governor if something happens to the governor. Head of state senate. Recognizes members of the senate to speak.

Most important duties of the lieutenant governor:
Acts as the state’s chief executive when the governor is out of state. Presides over the Senate. Recognizes members of the Senate to speak.

Appointed A statutory position is one not provided for in the constitution but are appointed by the governor. The executive branch was more people appointed than elected. More than 150,000 people state wide work for the executive branch of the state government.
