Ethos, Pathos, Logos Madi Burns
2
Why do we use these? These three different strategies are very helpful in argument essays to persuade people. Without using these different strategies, your writing might not be as strong.
3
Ethos This appeals to ethics.
Usually some famous or credible person is used to make the reader feel comfortable trusting who is talking. Examples in writing can include saying, “according to”, or using a well know celebrity like Justin Bieber. Ethos
4
Pathos This appeals to emotions.
This is commonly used to make you emotional for a certain person or thing. Examples can include donation commercials (think the sad music in the background and the clips that they show). A writing example could be using words to pull at the heartstrings of the reader, “doing this action could kill children”. Pathos
5
Logos This appeals to the logical approach.
This is used to support ideas with data. Examples include when writers use % numbers or graphs or tables of any sort. Logos
