1 Section 17.3: Rotations

2 Objective(s): By following instructions, students will be able to: Draw the image of a figure under a rotation.

3 Def: rotation is a transformation around a point P, the center of rotation such that the following is true: Every point and its image are the same distance from P. All angles with vertex P formed by a point and its image have the same measure. This angle measure is the angle of rotation.

4 explain 1A Draw the image of the triangle after the given rotation.
Counterclockwise rotation of 150 degrees around point P.

5 explain 1B Draw the image of the triangle after the given rotation.
Clockwise rotation of 75 degrees around point Q.

6 Your-Turn #1 Draw the image of the triangle after the given rotation.
Clockwise rotation of 125 degrees around point Q.

7

8 explain 2A Draw the image of the figure under the given rotation.
Quadrilateral ABCD; 270 degrees

9 explain 2B Draw the image of the figure under the given rotation.
Triangle KLM; 180 degrees

10 Your-Turn #2 Draw the image of the figure under the given rotation.
Triangle PQR; 90 degrees

11 explain 3A Find the angle of rotation and direction of rotation in the given figure. Point P is the center of rotation.

12 explain 3B Find the angle of rotation and direction of rotation in the given figure. Point P is the center of rotation.

13 Your-Turn #3 Find the angle of rotation and direction of rotation in the given figure. Point P is the center of rotation.

14 Revisit Objective(s):
Did we... Draw the image of a figure under a rotation?

15 HW: Sec 17.3 pg 691 #s 1-21 ODD
