History- (noun) the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. the whole series of past events connected with someone or something

5 Primary vs. Secondary Sources
Historians got their facts from somewhere… Chances are they came from one of two places…

6 Primary Source Primary Source- a document or physical object which was written or created during the time of study Examples- artifacts, newspapers, quotes

7 Secondary Source Secondary Source- are documents written after an event has occurred, providing secondhand accounts of that event, person, or topic Examples- textbooks, biographies, non-fiction books, encyclopedias

What is the agenda of the source? What is it trying to do? Provide background information about the person or thing producing the source

13 Purpose What is the point of this source?
Why was this source produced? What is the source trying to get accomplished? Simply, what is the source saying?

14 Y is this Important? Explain why the source you have read might be important to understanding the “big picture” How does this help us better understand a historic event?
