1 An Inheritance 1 Peter 1:3-5

2 James 4:13-14 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.

3 2 Timothy 4:7 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

4 Christians are Heirs of God

5 One becomes a child of God by a new birth
22 Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, 23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 1 Peter 1:22-23

6 God’s children are heirs of God
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, Romans 8:15-16

7 God is giving unto His children that which t
hey could not give themselves. 7 But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers. 1 Peter 4:7

8 The Character of this Inheritance

9 It Means Salvation 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:5

10 It Means Salvation There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Revelation 21:4b

11 It Means Salvation eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; Romans 2:7

12 The inheritance will be incorruptible
4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 1 Peter 1:4

13 The inheritance will be incorruptible
23 having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever, 1 Peter 1:23

14 The inheritance will be incorruptible
Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. Luke 12:33

15 The inheritance will be Undefiled
27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life. Revelation 21:27

16 This inheritance is reserved in Heaven for God’s people.
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 2 Peter 3:10-11

17 The Assurance of this Inheritance

18 Hope based on the resurrection of Christ from the Dead
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3

19 Hope based on the resurrection of Christ from the Dead
4 and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Romans 1:4

20 The inheritance is “guarded”
5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 1 Peter 1:5

21 Add Christian graces and insure inheritance
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. 8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.

22 Add Christian graces and insure inheritance
10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; 11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5-11

23 Conclusion 1. What are you doing for heaven’s sake?
2. Missing heaven means life on earth has been a failure. 3. Set your focus on things above.
