10 questions to ask about your redundancy and the support available to you

2 1. Why me? Your employer must be able to demonstrate your role is no longer needed.

3 2. Who will do my work? Will it be given to remaining staff?
Do you have to provide a handover?

4 3. Are there any other roles?
If suitable vacancies exist elsewhere in the business, they must be made available to you.

5 4. When does my job end? You may have to work out your notice, be put on gardening leave or be given payment in lieu of notice.

6 5. Can I say goodbye? Will you get to see your colleagues, clients, customers and/or suppliers before you leave?

7 6. What can’t I do? Your employment contract may have a restraint clause or confidentiality provisions.

8 7. What do I have to return? How and when will you have to give back company equipment?

9 8. What’s my redundancy package?
Check you receive all your entitlements. Seek legal advice if you don’t get what you think you deserve.

10 9. Will I get outplacement help?
Outplacement services provide emotional support, career coaching and job search advice.

11 10. How will I get a reference?
Your employer may have a process for providing references. Some organisations only provide a statement of services.
