English III Nov. 19 Materials: text book, writing utensil, sheet of paper Turn to page 263 and answer questions 1,2, and 3 on your own We will answer question 4 together as a class *hint- question 3 is basically asking you what kind of person the narrator must be in order to mentally survive the horrors of the pit and the pendulum*

2 English III Nov. 19 Now, let’s take a look at the performance task question at the bottom of page 263. On the same sheet of paper, write a 2-3 sentence reflection on how Poe demonstrates his idea that confined spaces are horrific. What are some examples from the story?

English III Nov. 19 Now, lets take a look at page 265 Semicolons are used to separate yet connect two concepts that are linked. The table at the bottom of the page gives you three examples from Poe’s story. Draw a similar table on your paper and find two other examples from the story in which Poe uses semicolons. Give the example on the right of the table and give an explanation as to why he uses it on the left. *HINT- look to pages 257 and 260*
