In the best tradition of the much loved “Desert Island Discs” Radio 4 Show. You will need to select your top three songs or pieces of favourite music. Remember – you must also be able to give your reasons as to why you would select them. For example, does a favourite holiday come to mind ? Does a piece of music help you recall a favourite film from your younger days – Do you get the idea ?

Personal Luxury Items Now you have selected your three –
“All time favourite” - musical creations. You have to decide on TWO luxury items. Try to think very carefully about what you might NEED to be able to survive on a lonely deserted island . Also think about what will keep you AMUSED or ENTERTAINED

Here are some brilliant top tips that will help you to write a Diary Entry in a realistic way

Top Tip - Number One Write in the past tense and in . . .
“Chronological Order” To help the reader empathise with you Use pronouns such as . . . I, We, Us, We’re and I’m. They help to make the reader feel part of the text.

Top Tip - Number Two Detailed Description
You need to add lots of detailed information relating to people, places, events & objects. Also remember to include your personal thoughts and feelings about these things. By doing so, your writing will be more appealing to the reader.

Familiar - Everyday Events
Top Tip - Number Three Familiar - Everyday Events Write about ordinary, daily things that everybody does at some time . . – BUT – Do try to write about them using a completely different angle or slant. For example – Brushing your teeth whilst sitting on a deserted island beach, watching the Ocean crash loudly against the rocks.

Top Tip - Number Four Explain Why . . . .
Help your reader to understand your moods. By explaining your different Emotions and Feelings – the reader will be able to . . . VISUALISE and put themselves in your shoes. So, if you are sad – explain why you are sad. Similarly, if you are happy – explain why you are feeling in such a way.

Now it is your turn to write a Diary Recount.
Imagine that you have been marooned on a tropically beautiful, desert island. Now, using your “Desert Island Diary” booklet, write about a day you have experienced. Remember, use your 5 senses to describe your inner feelings & emotions throughout the whole day – from sunrise to sunset.

Remember that the island may be quite big and full of weird & wonderful creatures. Think about the sights, sounds and possible smells on the island …… not only in the daytime, but also during the night time and early hours.
