6. Foil The first weapon you will use The moves
Foil introduces you to fencing
Light and flexible
Designed to target your opponent’s torso
The moves
You must gain right of way
Thrust, lunge, parry and riposte

7. Epee Descended from the rapier (duelling sword)
Provides an experience closer to duelling than foil or sabre
Heavier and stiffer blade than foil
Entire body can be targeted
No right of way needed to score

8. Sabre Descended from the cavalry sword Score by cutting or thrusting
Cutting edge as well as a point
Target anywhere above the waist
Score by cutting or thrusting
Fencer who straightens arm first and threatens target has right of way
