Turning point in Pacific. Rescue mission of 500 troops by the Rangers. A huge misjudgment by U.S. commanders. This group of islands were used for B-29’s which were used for dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Tinian, Guam and Saipan. Where one of the most famous pictures from WWII was taken. Battle was similar to Iwo Jima, but much grander in size.

18 Was done in retaliation for Pearl Harbor.
First battle where we fought hand to hand with Japanese forces. A battle where opposing sides never saw each other, but caused enormous damage to both sides; especially the United States. The first time napalm was used in battle. During this battle, the Japanese were getting desperate and started using Kamikaze attacks.
