1 "Supplement … steadfastness with godliness."
Divine Qualities "Supplement … steadfastness with godliness."

2 The Essentiality of Godliness
If we want to continue being "partakers of the divine nature," we must supplement steadfastness with godliness. The word for "godliness" signifies "that piety, which, characterized by a Godward attitude, does that which is well-pleasing to Him" (Vine's). Godliness may be possessed by the unsaved, as well as the saved, for it is the adjective form of this word that Luke uses to describe the unsaved Cornelius as "a devout man." Thus, godliness alone will not get one into heaven, though one cannot get into heaven without it. But a godly person will obey the gospel soon after learning it.

3 Not Merely Good Conduct
One's motive for his conduct may be improper.

4 1 Timothy 6:3-5 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness,  he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,  and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

5 Not Merely Good Conduct
One's motive for his conduct may be improper. A mere "form of godliness" is insufficient.

6 2 Timothy 3:1-5 But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.  For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,  treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,  having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

7 Matthew 23:27-28  “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.  So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.”

8 An Attitude Toward God A constant sense of being "before God"

9 Acts 10:33; 23:1 “So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.” And looking intently at the council, Paul said, “Brothers, I have lived my life before God in all good conscience up to this day.”

10 An Attitude Toward God A constant sense of being "before God"
A constant sense of being "with God"

11 Genesis 5:24; 6:9; Micah 6:8 Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God. He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

12 Matthew 23:23 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others.”

13 An Attitude Toward God A constant sense of being "before God"
A constant sense of being "with God“ That attitude which prays, "Be with me, Lord! No other gift or blessing Thou couldst bestow could with this one compare--A constant sense of Thy abiding presence. Where'er I am, to feel that Thou art near."
