Having a father present in the home affects the social and emotional development of both males and females. Girls learn to appreciate their own femininity from the one male that is most special in their life…they learn that they are love-worthy. The onset of sexual behaviors are delayed by about 2 years when a father is present in the home. Boys learn how to be “a man”. They learn about male responsibility and achievement and about how to be suitably assertive and independent and learn how to relate acceptably to the opposite sex.
