3. Our Local MapQuest®
Goal: to eventually replace the current Campus Locator site.
Should provide a similar interface to MapQuest.
Server side application runs search algorithm and returns printable directions for a student’s class schedule.
Added pan, and zoom functionality.

4. Cool stuff for the user
I estimate that this product could save you an hour of travel time (read: wet, unhappy time) every quarter.
Finally see *exactly* how long you can sleep in before you have to book it to class, and then know exactly how to get there!
Current map "locator" only allows you to find campus locations by building and is only really good at helping you find a building
Potential to ultimately add your own corrections/updates, make a community-moderated map (ie construction). Other ideas:
Could incorporate additional transportation options (car, bus, bike)
Find other locations of interest (bathrooms, coffee stands, etc)
Could allow "shortcuts" (across lawns, through buildings)
May develop a "schedule map" utility allowing users to print a map of the trips they will need to make that day (no more lost freshmen!)
Many more possibilities....

5. Cool stuff for you
I don't like doing "fake work" for a grade: come work on something that real users need with a real application in mind
Bonus: you ARE the real user and get the benefits of such a tool with the rest of us
Double bonus: Fame and fortune and the potential for your name to live on in perpetuity
It is job hunting season--wouldn't this be a great demo to give to potential employers?
This product will use mainstream (i.e. relevant) technologies and requires web, database, and application programming expertise.
