Let us take a look at this video and discuss our thoughts.

5 The Rose That Grew From Concrete By: Tupac Shakur
Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's law is wrong it learned to walk with out having feet. Funny it seems, but by keeping its dreams, it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.

6 Cleanin out my Closet By: Eminem
Ha, I got some skeletons in my closet And I don't know if no one knows it So before they throw me inside my coffin and close it I'ma expose it, I'll take you back to '73 Before I ever had a multi-platinum sellin' CD I look at Hailie and I couldn't picture leavin' her side Even if I hated Kim, I'd grit my teeth and I'd try To make it work with her at least for Hailie's sake I maybe made some mistakes but I'm only human But I'm man enough to face them today I was a baby, maybe I was just a couple of months My father must have had his panties up in a bunch 'Cause, he split, I wonder if he even kissed me goodbye? No I don't on second thought I just wished he would die Read more: Eminem - I'm Sorry Mama (full Song) Lyrics | MetroLyrics

7 Hands Held High By: Linkin Park
Turn my mic up louder, I got to say somethin' Lightweight step it aside when we comin' Feel it in your chest, the syllables get pumpin People on the street, they panic and start runnin Jump when they tell us they want to see jumpin F### that! I want to see some fists pumpin Risk somethin', take back what's yours Say somethin' that you know they might attack you for Like they understand you in the back of the jet When you can't put gas in your tank These fuckers are laughin their way to the bank and cashin' the check Askin' you to have compassion and have some respect For a leader so nervous in an obvious way Stutterin and mumblin for nightly news to replay And the rest of the world watchin at the end of the day In their livin room laughin like, "What did he say? Cause I'm sick of bein' treated like I have before Like I'm stupid standin for what I'm standin for Like this war's really just a different brand of war Like it doesn't cater to rich and abandon poor Words on loose leaf sheet complete comin I jump on my mind, I summon the rhyme I'm dumpin Healin' the blind, I promise to let the sun in Sick of the dark ways, we march to the drummin Read more: Linkin Park - Hands Held High Lyrics | MetroLyrics

8 Writer’s Workshop Using all that you have learned about poetry, editing, and revising, you have 3 SONGS to work with your poetry partner to improve each other’s work. Your poetry partner is sitting either across from you at a table or next to you at a student desk.

9 Poetry Presentations It’s time to share what you have written!
As a class, you have two choices: Choice A: Everyone takes turns sharing what they have written at the front of the class. Choice B: We circle up and take turns sharing our work one- by-one. You can pass today, but tomorrow, those who “passed” must go in order to receive a grade. Interpretation borrowed from:

10 Closing Summary Circle:
As we circle up in the center of the room, share something that you wrote, ask for feedback, or reflect on today’s lesson.

11 Homework Read for 30 minutes.
Make sure you have posted your "If I Were President" speech on KidBlog. Begin posting your poem on KidBlog and Padlet. (The link to the Padlet page is here.) Come prepared to present your poem tomorrow! Study for Friday’s vocabulary quiz and poetry test.
