The Lamar County School System receives Title IA funds as part of the Elementary & Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Title I is designed to support academic standards and provide resources to improve teaching and learning for low-achieving students. Title IA also provides funding to increase & improve parent involvement.

Definition Parent Engagement is an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between parents, schools, and communities with the goal of educating the whole child to ensure student achievement and success. (

What is Title I? Part of the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act designed to support academic standards, provide resources & improve parent involvement that a) Provides federal funds through the GA-DOE to school systems; and b) Ensures that all children have a fair, equal & significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.

How does LCES spend Title I money?
To purchase software programs: Study Island, STAR Math, and STAR Reading To provide time for core content teachers to collaborate and improve instruction to meet the needs of low achieving students To purchase resources and technology equipment.

How does LCES participate in the Title I Program?
By providing all children with an enriched and supportive educational program By affording parents substantial & meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children.

What are the Title I requirements?
If 40% of a school’s student body qualifies for free or reduced lunch, the school is able to use funds in School-wide Program (SWP), which means that all students can benefit from the Title I funds. All of Lamar County schools operate under the SWP model.

Designation Status Priority—a school that has been identified as among the lowest-performing 5% of Georgia’s Title I schools over the past three years, or any non-Title I school that would otherwise have met the same criteria. Focus-/Alert—a school that has room for improvement in specific areas. Focus Schools will receive targeted and tailored solutions to meet the school’s unique needs. Reward —a school with outstanding student achievement or growth over the past three years.

What is LCES’s Designation Status?
Note: Schools may also be designated as Priority, Focus, or Alert schools based on assessment and graduation data. Starting with the school year, each school received a College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) number that provided a more complete and comprehensive look at a school’s performance. We are pleased to announce that none of the Lamar County Schools were identified as Priority, Focus, or Alert schools.

What does Georgia’s law require?
LCES Parent Involvement Policy/Plan for What is it? This is a plan that describes how LCES will provide opportunities to improve parent engagement to support student learning. How is it developed? LCES welcomes parent input and comments at any time regarding the parental involvement plan. All parent feedback will be used to revise the plan for the next year.

What is required by law for parent involvement?
: LCES Parent Involvement Policy/Plan Who is it for? All students and their families are encouraged and invited to participate in the opportunities described in this plan. Where is it available? Each parent/student receives a paper copy. Parents may also retrieve a copy of the plan by going to the district website at and clicking on Lamar County Elementary School. Additionally, copies are in s in the Parent Resource Room and the front office. How will you receive timely information? Updates to any Title 1 program are posted on our website, announced through automated phone calls, flyers and the front office.

LCES will host and offer the following events to build participation for stronger parental involvement, as well as other meetings at parent request. September 8, 2016– Annual Title I Meeting – 6:00 PM September 16, 2016– Literacy Night: Parent Night: From 5 – 7 p.m. November 10, 2016– Be Involved: Parent Night from 5-7 p.m. February 4, 2017 – Math Night: Parent Night: from 5 – 7 p.m. March 22, 2016 – Science Night: Parent Night from 5 – 7 p.m. May 17, 2017 – LCES Title I Input Meeting at 8:30-9:30 a.m. 4:30-5:30 p.m.

LCES is Continually Improving
LCES is Continually Improving! LCES will take the following measures to promote and support parent involvement as an important foundation of the school in order to strengthen the school and reach our school goals. Ensure that the parent involvement materials are published, posted, and distributed in both English and Spanish (as needed or requested) Provide an aligned curriculum using the CCGPS and the GPS Conduct staff development quarterly to improve parent involvement practices Communicate regularly with families and the community regarding school wide events and activities Ensure that all parents have the opportunity to provide feedback Use feedback from parents to provide and develop relevant trainings to educate staff on the importance of parental involvement Provide necessary materials for parents at conferences Collaborate with parents, community leaders and business groups to develop, discuss, revise and agree upon the school parental involvement policy on an annual basis.

Lamar County Elementary School Student-Parent-Teacher Compact Grades 3-5 2015-2016
This compact outlines how LCES, students participating in the Title 1, Part A, Program, and their families will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement, as well as describes how teachers and parents will build and develop partnerships that will help children achieve the state’s high academic standards.

School and Teacher Responsibilities:
Provide high quality instruction in a supportive, effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the state’s academic achievement standards. Hold parent-teacher conferences during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement. Provide parents with frequent reports on their child’s progress. Provide parents reasonable access to all staff members. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer at the school, participate in their child’s class, and observe classroom activities.

Parent Responsibilities: We, as parents, will play an integral role in the daily school life of our child. We will 1. Provide our child a designated nightly homework time so that as a family we can talk about the content standards our child is learning; 2. Discuss together any important communication to/from the school; 3. Initiate and communicate with our child’s teacher any concerns that we might have through , phone calls, or face-to-face meetings; 4. Log into the Parent Portal so that we can access our child’s daily grades and assignments and have an open conversation about his/her academic achievement; 5. Ensure that our child will attend school daily and stay the entire day unless properly excused so that he/she may take advantage of the rigorous instruction provided; and 6. Take advantage of the various supports (as needed) provided by the school before and after school hours to the greatest extent possible.
