Welcome to YEAR 3 Jodie Farrar Penny Andrews Quick intro – say who’s who.

2 Curriculum Current Topic: Ancient Egypt
Horniman Museum Weds 26th September Future topics: Fairtrade (Chocolate Museum 6th Dec), Stone Age to Iron Age (Butser Farm 1st Feb), Ancient Greeks (British Museum 13th May) and Global Gardens (Kew Gardens) Knowledge Organisers every half-term apart from Spring, which is one longer topic. Assessment are below (emerging), expected or above (secure)

3 Reading Please keep reading with your child. There is no age at which this should stop! We do ask the children in class and assembly who has read the night before and what they have read! Research from Booktrust highlights ‘importance of quality time reading as a family’. Recent poll (Aug ‘18) found that only 30% of parents read to the children each day. Join the library if you haven’t already, it’s a great resource and free! KS2 – 15 – 20mins every day. Talk about importance of reading at home every day. Young children should be read to and heard read every day. There is no age at which this should stop! Hearing children read should be a warm, positive experience for the child – not an opportunity to ‘test’ them. Remind about ‘homework’ expectations – see policy for different year groups. Encourage library visits, particularly re your topic.

4 Timetable PPA every Tuesday afternoon. Children will have Art with Ellie and PE with Rachel. P.E – Tuesdays and Thursdays (keep kit in school) KS2- Whole class recorder (Friday afternoon) and singing assembly Routines – Line up near grey doors. Play and Lunch by the fence. Water to be brought into classroom and put in orange box. Toilet ideally at play or lunch so learning time is not wasted.

5 Home Learning Reading 15 – 20mins (including Bug Club/Active Learn – Username e.g glorene2 Password: Jodie) Times tables Spellings (sent out and tested every Friday) Knowledge Organisers every half term and topic related task (Optional) Home learning – emphasise that the main purpose is to provide opportunities for children to engage enthusiastically with the curriculum. Refer to policy if needed, Emphasis is on weekly reading and weekly practice of Maths facts from Y2 – Y6.

6 Behaviour School Rules: Routines (lining up and learning)
Be Ready Be Respectful Be Safe Routines (lining up and learning) Recognition board – recognition of ‘over and above’ behaviour Not following school rules: After 3 reminders child may be asked to stay in for 3 minutes during play or lunch time. Restorative conversations for those that need them. These are monitored and parents will be contacted when needed.

7 Communication Parent/ Teacher communication important.
Communicate at pick up or can arrange appointment Newsletters Parentmail/texting Blog –’everyday things’ and special events. address: (please contact within work hours) Emphasise the importance of your relationship with parents so all the children can make good progress. Acknowledge that they are the experts on their children and that you want to draw on that expertise. Re the blog say that we are wanting to blog ‘everyday’ things as well as special events, emphasise it is good to have feedback, parent comments etc so please keep checking the blog regularly.
