3 Canada’s Industrial Growth
Canada’s Industrial Growth Europeans first came to Canada for its resources. First, the fish, then later fur, lumber and minerals. These were our earliest industries, and they were all based upon extracting resources from the natural environment. They relied on natural resources. At first the resources were taken out of Canada and turned into manufactured goods by the European industries. Some of the products were then sold back in Canada. Eventually, we began manufacturing our own products, and even sold them to European countries. The Canadian economy began to grow at a fast pace as we were able to make more and more of the things we needed. Eventually, the demand grew for things that were not manufactured, things that were based upon services. The people, who sell goods in stores, work in banks, or cook in a restaurant are providing services. Europeans first came to Canada for its resources.
