3. Topographical Why are they used?
Used by anyone that needs an accurate description of earth’s surface.
They show what the ground looks like
By who?
Campers, hikers, hunters, fishers, urban developers
What is on it?
Toponymy, including names of places, bodies of water and highways
Reliefs, including mountains, valleys and plateaus
Waters, including oceans, lakes, streams, rivers
Cities

4. Topographical continued
Similar to Physical maps
Difference is that they use contour lines
Make sure you have a legend
Those that look at these maps need to know what elevation is what color
Use colors
Make sure that you use the same scheme of colors for the same thing

8. Physical Focuses on the geography of the area
Will show mountains, water, deserts, and natural details of the land
More natural colors
Will show elevation with different colors

12. Political Map Shows boundaries Often more brightly colored
Shows cities and counties/ countries
Do not show any topographic features
