Cartographic Skills 2018 “Candidates will need to develop a variety of basic, investigative, cartographic, graphical, applied ICT and statistical skills. They will need to develop a critical awareness of the appropriateness and limitations of different skills and resources.” To include at AS use of: Atlas maps Base maps Sketch maps Ordnance Survey maps at a variety of scales Maps with located proportional symbols – squares, circles, semi-circles, bars Maps showing movement – flow lines, desire lines and trip lines Choropleth, isoline and dot maps. In addition, to include at A2: Weather maps – including synoptic charts Detailed town centre plans.

Tasks In this presentation there are 15 slides of various types of maps. Choose JUST 10 of these slides. For each of the 10 slides do the following on a newly created Word document: Explain briefly (2/3 sentences max.) what the map on the slide is showing In your opinion identify and then state what is missing or misleading from the map (which may make the map difficult to understa Decide whether what is missing or misleading has been done accidentally or possibly deliberately. Then explain why (if you believe it was deliberate move) the map was made this way. Answer the exam question on slide 19 Print the Word document – leave in the box in H8 Print the entire presentation 6 SLIDES HORIZONTALLY keep these for your file
