Membership INNOVATION AND FLEXIBILITY MEMBERSHIP LEADS
PDG Bonnie Sirower (D 7490) , Assistant Rotary Coordinator District 7470 Membership Seminar September 28, 2017 We continue to facilitate connections between those who are new to Rotary, donors or alumni who want to join, former members who want to rejoin and current members who need to change clubs. We do this through a program we refer to as “Membership Leads”. Rotary International launched an online leads program in 2001 to support clubs and districts in their endeavor to attract new members and keep outstanding Rotarians. The program has grown by 400% and currently forwards 10,000 prospective, referred members, relocating, and rejoining members to districts each year.

RI Now Makes it Easier to Attract and Engage Members
Changes in attendance requirements Changes in qualifications – requirement of business owner no longer applies Changes in meeting flexibility Flexibility in using modern technology to attend meetings (e-clubs, Skype) E-clubs and Rotaractors are now considered as members
3
Offer Flexibility in meeting frequency, format, and attendance
Rotary clubs now have the option of reducing their meeting frequency as long as they meet in some way at least twice per month. Your club can change or cancel a meeting, if the need arises. Count service projects or social events as meetings. Choose whether to gather in person, meet online, alternate between online and in-person meetings, or even use both formats at the same time (for example, a member could participate in an in-person meeting online through video chat)
4
Use every single source to attract new members
Your speakers Your Chamber of Commerce Your Interact families and advisors The usual suspects – churches, synagogues, mosques Participants in community service projects Attendees at your club’s events Download Club Locator onto your phone

Flexibility in Types of Memberships
Corporate Memberships Service Memberships Family Memberships “Young Professionals Memberships”
6
Flexibility in Membership Requirements
Go back to members who have left your club and invite back the “prodigal sons and daughters.” New rules allow more flexibility so that people who had no time before can return Much easier to bring back an old member than to start a new member Twelve hour rule guarantees that even if someone misses meetings, he/she can still be a great Rotarian
7
Innovate by Using New Technology
Club Members can use Skype or Facetime to attend meetings -- attending members just bring laptops or pads Use the Meet-Up App to attract new members. Try a flash mob service project Use Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to advertise your projects and causes
8
Try new types of programs during your meetings…
9
Amend your by-laws to reflect changes
Amend your club’s bylaws to either relax or tighten attendance requirements and policies of terminating members for poor attendance. Your club is still expected to forward attendance reports to the district governor within 15 days of the last meeting of each month.

Relocating/ Rejoining Members
MEMBERSHIP LEADS Prospective Members The Membership Leads program enables prospective members and current Rotarians to express interest in joining a Rotary club, changing clubs, or making a membership referral. We are then able to filter leads through our membership database for transmission to districts and clubs to facilitate follow up and conversion tracking. And Rotary staff is able to efficiently direct non-membership inquiries to the appropriate staff teams for follow up This program is currently in the midst of a major enhancement project. Why are we investing to improve this system? The primary motivation: This is one of the few programs of RI that directly supports membership growth and retention at the club level.
