Love Food Start by talking about how much we ‘love food’!

We use a lot of resources to create food.
For example - Where does our food come from? flour from the USA 5,400 miles pineapple from Kenya 4,500 miles olives from Greece Fuel, food for animals, water, energy fro cooking ... The list could go on depending on how detailed you got. Total mileage for pizza with these toppings = 17,400 miles. Most of us don’t think about that when we’re eating it! 1,500 miles mozzarella cheese and tomatoes from Italy black pepper from India 1000 miles 5000 miles

We use a lot of resources to make our food and yet a lot gets wasted.

In a school of 1000 pupils you could all have 700 free chocolate bars!

What can you do to help? Plan – write a shopping list
Plan – create the correct portion sizes Store food properly – freeze bread, keep apples in the fridge Use up leftovers in different recipes

Good news .... Between 2006/07 and 2010 food waste has reduced by around 13%, over 1 million tonnes this amount of food would fill Wembley stadium! BUT ... We can do more ...

Competition Time What is involved? Create a recipe using leftovers. Then if you are chosen cook your recipe for the judges. When do I enter by? By start of week 5 - Monday 17th September Cooking will run in week 8 – Tuesday 9th October after school until 6pm What do I win? 1st – £50 vouchers 2nd - £25 vouchers Any other important information ....
