2 The Ukrainian holidays Epiphany (holiday) Водохреща
Epiphany marks on January, 19. With it connect a christening on Jordan Jesus. This day in all cities and villages where there are churches, consecrate water. For a long time people have believed that water blessed at Epiphany cure a lot of illnesses. There is a riddle that fact which epiphany’s water does not spoil, has no smell and can be kept during one year.

Someone is declined to count, that this is assisted with silver from a cross, which priest immerses in water during a ceremony. By old tradition, ceremony of consecration of water occurred open-air, on coast of small rivers, springs, lakes. On Epiphany’s eve, people cut a big cross from ice.

Christian holiday on Palm Sunday of week, before Easter which marks entrance Jesus to Jerusalem. That day you should go to church. If a person enters a house and finds someone who has overslept he / she says: “Not I’m beating - the willow is beating, Easter’s in a week!”

Special is Pure Thursday - day, when Jesus together with the pupils during the Secret Supper had His last meal. All people had to resave. On Passionate Friday a shroud is put in a church – people come t worship Jesus and reveal their gratitude and respect.

One of the most beloved is Easter. Ukrainians have a lot of traditions connected with it. Every hostess is proud of her pysankas (coloured eggs) and Paska (Easter bread) attributed is nothing. Children especially like going and blessing Easter basket full with Easter cake and eggs (easter eggs), sausage, cheese, garlic, a horse-radish, salt, etc. People trusted, that put in a small basket ram will guarantee favor of forces of the nature and will preserve against act of nature.

Easter Monday refers to still " Pour Monday " as this day, behind ancient custom, guys pour water on girls and surprisingly but true girls like it ))

Green Holidays are traditional Ukrainian Holidays. Before this holiday, the house is decorated with green branches of trees and also floors should be covered with sweet-flag.

12 The Ukrainian holidays Ivan Kupalo’s Day
Ivan Kupalo’s Day is celebrated in Ukraine on 7 July according to the Gregorian or New Style calendar, which is 24 June in the Julian or Old Style calendar. Youths jump over the flames of bonfires. Girls would float wreaths of flowers often lit with candles on rivers and would attempt to gain foresight into their relationship fortunes from the flow patterns of the flowers on the river. Men may attempt to capture the wreaths, in the hope of capturing the interest of the woman who floated the wreath.

There is an ancient Kupala belief, that the eve of Ivan Kupala is the only time of the year when ferns bloom. Prosperity, luck, discernment and power would befall on whomever finds a fern flower. Therefore, on that night village folks would roam through the forests in search of magical herbs and especially the elusive fern flower.

15 Ukrainian cuisine has a rich history and offers a wide variety of dishes. The cuisine of modern Ukraine is based on traditional Ukrainian recipes.

16 Ukrainian dishes show a sophisticated simplicity based on pleasing combinations of fresh, pickled, and smoked ingredients. While cooking techniques are not complicated, dishes may contain a great number of ingredients and unusual combinations.

18 Borsch Borsch is certainly the national dish of Ukraine, even making its appearance on the menus of Chinese and Italian restaurants in Kiev. This uniquely Ukrainian soup has been adopted by other countries. The many versions of borsch served throughout the country reflect the individuality of Ukrainians as well as their ingenuity. The beet-based soup can contain as many as 20 different ingredients, depending on the season, region, and of course, personal preference of the cook. It can be meatless or prepared from a rich meat stock and contain either beef or smoked pork.

19 Varenyky Varenyky are dumplings made from boiled or fried dough, resembling ravioli without red sauce. They can be filled with meat, potatoes, cabbage, and sometimes mushrooms for as an entrée, or sour cherries or sweetened cottage cheese and raisins as a dessert. Any kind can be accompanied by butter or sour cream.
