We aim to ensure that no one living with the virus has their ability to get well and stay well adversely affected by lack of access to appropriate food. All our services are provided with the help and support of around 600 volunteers. The Food Chain holds cookery classes every Monday for our service users so they can learn to cook nutritious meals in their own homes. This role would suit someone who has teaching/training experience and who is a confident and competent cook. Youll be teaching the class by demonstrating how to cook a particular dish thats been worked out by our Community Dietitian. Youll be told what the recipe is in good time prior to the class. Youll have two volunteer kitchen assistants to support you by helping to prep and demonstrate. Classes have on average 8-10 service users who youll be teaching. Classes are held on most Mondays (we try to do a Saturday or evening every other month or so) at our Kitchen on Grays Inn Road and your shift will be from 2pm – 6.30 / 7pm which includes preparation and clean up time. The class is from 3pm – 6pm. Classes are launching on Thursdays from August 2013. How often do I need to volunteer? How much time do I need to give? We ask for a commitment of one class (either a Monday or a Thursday) per month. Occasionally classes are held on evenings and Saturdays, so some flexibility would be great Please also remember once you book a shift it is very hard to cover if you cancel and therefore usually the class has to be completely cancelled, so commitment is needed to complete the shift.
