3 VOTING ASSISTANCE Purpose
-Individuals who are separated from the military are no longer be covered by the UOCAVA and will need to notify the local election official of the change in voter registration status and update personal information to vote locally. -Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act (UOCAVA). UOCAVA citizens are U.S. citizens who are active members of the Uniformed Services, the Merchant Marine, and the commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, their eligible family members and U.S. citizens residing outside the United States. This Act provides the legal basis for these citizens' absentee voting requirements for federal offices. Standard There are two methods for updating voting residence information. 6 Legal Assistance Purpose To inform members of the assistance available through the legal office Standard Military installations have legal assistance offices available to assist members with legal matters such as will preparation, powers of attorney, review of most contracts, debit/credit problems, landlord/tenant issues, family law, tax law and estate planning.  All of these services are a no-cost benefit of active duty service.  Resources     Base or Installation Legal Office
