Sample Sentences Although Atticus refuted the charges against Tom, the jury repudiated his argument. Atticus hoped that his logical argument would vindicate Tom; however, he found that deeply rooted prejudice does not respond to reason. Bob Ewell’s virulent lies permeated the courtroom and destroyed an innocent man. Allusion: Look at TKAM chapter one and explain what it means that General Jackson “ran the Creeks up the creek”. Poetry Connection: Responding to Poetry Using ICI 25 MINUTES
Instructions: Put your name on the front of your paper. Flip it over and read “Sympathy”. Think about how the poem makes you feel. On the other side of the sheet, in the margin, write a short sentence about how this poem makes you feel. Now, flip back over and circle all of the mood words that contribute to that feeling. 3. Complete the same steps for “Caged Bird” 4. Next, identify the tone of each poem. Highlight words that help you know the speaker’s feelings and attitudes. 5. How does the tone of “Sympathy” compare to the tone of “Caged Bird”?
