2 Warm Up 1. Explain the following allusions (include what kind of allusion it is) and why they are fitting allusions for Stevenson to make in the novella: “I incline to Cain's heresy…I let my brother go to the devil in his own way.” “such unscientific balderdash…would have estranged Damon and Pythias.” “The drug had no discriminating actions; it was neither diabolical nor divine; it but shook the doors of the prison-house of my disposition; and like the captives of Philippi, that which stood ran forth.” “That child of hell had nothing human, nothing lived in him but fear and hatred.” 2. Analyze the meaning of the following characters’ names and why they are fitting for each character: Mr. Utterson Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde

3 Character sticky notes:
Directions: find passages throughout the novella that describe each of the following characters’ physical appearance as well as their psychological/emotional/mental state (you may need to use indirect characterization to help you….infer their mental state based on their actions). Sticky note the passage and make notes on the sticky note on what it reveals about the character: Dr. Jekyll Mr. utterson Mr. hyde Mr. Richard Enfield Dr. Lanyon

4 Dr. Jekyll/Hyde Character Face!
Psychological: Find a quote that depicts the character’s mental state. Actions/Behaviors: List 3 things the character does in the novella that highlights their true nature. Rumors: Find a quote that is either something the character heard about themselves or something another character said about them (but that the character didn’t hear themselves). Physical Description: Find a quote that describes the character physically.
