According to the 2013 6th Edition of IDF Diabetes Atlas for MENA Region: 1-KSA ranks No. 1 with a prevalence of 23.7% for adults (20-79) = 3.6 million diabetics. 2-KSA is the highest in the MENA Region for children with type 1 diabetes (10-14 years) with 31.4 children in 100,000. Overview

The Womens Forum Provides lectures and exhibitions which cover Diabetes, Obesity, Healthy nutrition, Skin care, Bone integrity, Mental health and Breast cancer. Women Health and Safety

SDEA website(in both English and Arabic) provides information on: 1-Diabetic cultural dishes. 2-Campaigns to teach the importance of safe and healthy fasting. Fasting Ramadan

SDEA developed Hajj and Diabetes Guidelines provided to: 1-The Ministry of Hajj. 2-The Ministry of Health. 3-The Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Hajj and Diabetes

SDEA capitalizes on the use of media to support needs of diabetics: 1-TV, radio, interviews, interactive dialogue sessions, newsletters, magazines, and demonstrations. 2-SDEA website: educational contents for children, adults, and retirees. Media and Publications

The Outreach Programs (Mobile Unit) provides: 1-Screening for Diabetes & Obesity. 2-Enrollment in prevention programs. 3-Scheduled for schools, colleges, companies, sports clubs, and remote villages. Mobile Unit

SDEA has launched an Obesity Prevention Program 1- Conducted at schools, universities, and the public. 2- 6 month duration. 3- Lifestyle modification. 4- Diabetic Prevention Plan. Diabetes Prevention

Outcome targets: 1-Reduction in body weight by 10%. 2-Reduction in HbgA1C by 1.5 %. 3-Reduction in BP by (7 mm). 4-Improved work productivity by reducing sick time by 20% for the high risk individuals. Diabetes Prevention

A-Diabetes Cook Book which includes: 1-50 healthy recipes. 2-Cultural foods (Low in calories and fat). B-Developed an Educational Program for Cooks in various sectors. Diabetes Prevention

SDEAs activities are part of its mission. Steps needed: 1-Curb the hemorrhaging of the budget of the Ministry of Health. * Over 30 Billion SR were spent in 2011 on Diabetics alone (total budget 70 Billion SR)!!!!! 2-Reinvest these sums in appropriate programs, leading to a healthier society.
