You need to be in pairs or groups of three
General communication skills that are required in the industry. In this unit we will be doing some role-playing - how do you feel about acting/ role-playing? Most people are not trained on this skill and simply find it strange to perform an act. They might feel shy, awkward or simply start laughing at their own abstract acting. This first activity is designed to improve your confidence at acting - just act!! You need to be in pairs or groups of three You will have 5 minutes to prepare your role and only need to act for 2-3 minutes. Afterwards we will discuss what worked well and try to adopt those ideas.
5
Face to face communication Interpersonal skills:
methods for communicating interpersonally eg verbal exchanges, signing, lip reading; techniques and cues eg body language, use of intonation; positive and negative language; paying attention and active engagement eg nodding, summarising or paraphrasing.
6
Senseless Communication
Everything that is happening, should make sense; your words and body language should make sense together. Often we give mixed signals when we communicate with someone. Our body language is not congruent with our words. That simply means that we are saying one thing, and our body language is saying something else. For example : * “No, I didn’t take any chocolate,” he said as he looked down and fidgeted. * “I’m not really upset about it,” she said with tears in her eyes. * "Yah, yah.. I’m listening,” he said as he stared at the television.
7
Active listening Try the Communication Skills exercise: split into pairs and then tell each other about your self: While you are speaking your partner will be listening and noting certain points: while they are speaking you will be listening and noting other points. Ideas for things you could tell your partner: where you went to school, what you thought of that school your hobbies, what you do and why the best thing you've ever done/place you've ever been the worst thing you've ever done/ place you've ever been Easy Stress Management
