Reasons for the conflict in the middle east
1 There is a shortage of land 2 There is a shortage of water 3 There are different religions (Muslims and Jews) 4 Both claim that important places such as Jerusalem should belong to their religion 5 The Jewish people are afraid of being attacked by their Muslim neighbours 6 The Palestinians claim that they are fighting injustices such as having their land taken from them 7 The people learn not to trust each other from a young age
14
Explain why some Christians do not agree with war
Jesus said that those who live by the sword will die by the sword Joseph Fletcher said "Do the most loving thing and war is not". Some Christians might be conscientious objectors and refuse to go to a war because their conscience tells them that war is wrong. There are some Christians such as Quakers who are pacifists and who think that war can never be justified. Often modern wars are not just in the sense spoken of by Thomas Aquinas for example they often do not try all other methods first and many countries have weapons of mass destruction. In the 10 Commandments (Exodus 20) it says thou shalt not kill and war involves killing. Some people think that Martin Luther King showed how we can change things peacefully and so war is not needed.
