Increases in tuition are highly correlated to cuts in state funding (Marketwatch; Acenet)
South Carolina has cut state funding of higher education by 37% since 2008, only three states have cut higher education funding more (Center for Budget and Policy Priorities). Forecasted growth in 18 year olds in SC between is 2.5%-7.5% (Grawe, 2016). This is higher than most other states. About a third of the country’s high school graduates were located in the south in the early 2000s. That portion had grown to about 43 percent -- or 1.23 million graduates -- by It’s expected to jump to nearly 47 percent of graduates, 1.35 million people, by about 2025 (Inside Higher Ed). Four-year regional institutions in SC are predicted to grow between % between (Grawe, 2016). Four-year national institutions in SC are predicted to grow more than 7.5% between (Grawe, 2016).

By 2025, 60 percent of Americans will need some type of high-quality credential beyond high school.
