3 VALUES • beliefs of a person or social group in which they have an emotional investment. A collection of guiding, usually positive principles; what one deems to be correct and desirable in life, especially regarding personal conduct. Types of values include ethical/moral values, doctrinal/ideological (religious, political) values, social values, and aesthetic values.

5 VALUES The fundamental beliefs and behaviors, customs, and institutions that are forged either favorably or unfavorably by people of various ethnic groups or nations.

6 A VALUE IS AN ENDURING BUT CHANGEABLE BELIEF THAT A PARTICULAR MEANS TO A PARTICULAR GOAL IS TO BE PREFERRED OVER ANOTHER OPTION

Being treated fairly and responsibly by others Treating others fairly and responsibly Respect for the law and others in the community

Being understood by community members Being honest and respectful and expecting the same in return from citizens Self-protection and coming home safe at the end of shift
