4 Learning to Wait on the Lord
Discussion point – the Sinners before an angry God sermon of Jonathan Edwards, 1741 God may cast wicked men into hell at any given moment. The Wicked deserve to be cast into hell. Divine justice does not prevent God from destroying the Wicked at any moment. The Wicked, at this moment, suffer under God's condemnation to Hell. The Wicked, on earth - at this very moment - suffer the torments of Hell. The Wicked must not think, simply because they are not physically in Hell, that God (in Whose hand the Wicked now reside) is not - at this very moment - as angry with them as He is with those miserable creatures He is now tormenting in hell, and who - at this very moment - do feel and bear the fierceness of His wrath. At any moment God shall permit him, Satan stands ready to fall upon the Wicked and seize them as his own. If it were not for God's restraints, there are, in the souls of wicked men, hellish principles reigning which, presently, would kindle and flame out into hellfire. Simply because there are not visible means of death before them at any given moment, the Wicked should not feel secure. Simply because it is natural to care for oneself or to think that others may care for them, men should not think themselves safe from God's wrath. All that wicked men may do to save themselves from Hell's pains shall afford them nothing if they continue to reject Christ. God has never promised to save us from Hell, except for those contained in Christ through the covenant of Grace.

5 Learning to Wait on the Lord
Psalm 27:14 Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!

6 The Great “Waits” in the Bible
Noah waited in the ark Abraham waited for Isaac Moses waited to lead Israel Jacob waited for Rachel Israel waited in the wilderness Saul waited for Samuel We wait today for Jesus’ return

7 The Great “Waits” in Our Lives
Waiting for the Lord to work in our lives: for the recovery we need – Jas. 5:14 for spiritual recovery in others – I Jno 5:16 for the right person in our life – Gen. 2:18 for the job we need – II Thes. 3:12 for spiritual growth – II Pet. 1:5-11

8 Learning To Wait on Him Matthew 25:1-13 Failed to wait properly: With patience With preparation

9 Failed Waits…. Abraham for Isaac Moses for Israel Israel in the wilderness Saul for Samuel

10 Failed Waits: Abraham Genesis 16:1-5 Ten plus years of waiting Sarah offers a simple solution Impatience led to strife, division

11 Failed Waits: Moses Acts 7:23-25 Moses prepared to free his brethren His brethren were not ready Moses had not yet been fully trained (example – Numbers 27:17)

12 Failed Waits: Israel Numbers 21:4-6 (Exodus 32) Israelites were constantly impatient They had no interest in waiting They lost EVERYTHING

13 Failed Waits: Saul I Samuel 13:8-13 Saul let others make him impatient Saul acted foolishly Saul lost his kingdom

14 What These Failures Teach
God acts in HIS time, not ours We must be prepared to wait We must NOT act outside His command

16 When Jesus Returns Matthew 7:22-23 "Many will say to Me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

17 When Jesus Returns Hear and Believe – Acts 4:4 Confess Jesus as Lord – Acts 8:37 Repent of your sins – Acts 2:38 Be immersed in water – Acts 22:16
