1 Sediment and Erosion Control Plans

2 WHY?

3 All Members shall implement effective sediment discharge and erosion prevention practices to minimize or eliminate the discharge of sediment above background levels. Members may be identified as having the potential to cause erosion and discharge sediment that may degrade surface waters or may cause a violation of applicable water quality objectives through their Farm Evaluation, by the third-party in the Sediment Discharge and Erosion Assessment Report [SDEAR], or by the Executive Officer. (Page 21, WDR General Order R R- 1) WHO?

4 Members identified as having the potential to cause erosion and discharge sediment that may degrade surface waters or may cause a violation of an applicable water quality objective, shall prepare and implement an individual Sediment and Erosion Control Plan as specified in section VII.C.1 below. (Page 20, WDR General Order R R-1) Growers with parcels within areas currently identified in the SDEAR THAT have the potential for erosion and sediment discharge are required to prepare and certify a Sediment Erosion and Control Plan (SECP) using an approved template (section VII.C of the Order). WHO?

6 RUSLE Equation A = R * K * LS * C * P
The Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) is as follows: A = R * K * LS * C * P A – Estimated average soil loss (in tons per acre per year) R – Is the rainfall – runoff erosivity factor K – Is the soil erodibility factor L – Is the slope length factor S – Is the slope steepness C – Is the cover-management factor P – Is the support practice factor

9 HOW?

10 WHEN? February 12, 2016 – Identified on their Farm Evaluation.
March 3, Those parcels identified by the RUSLE method (SDEAR). March 3, Those parcels proximate to main stem waterbodies (e.g., Sacramento, Feather, Yuba, Pit, and Bear Rivers). December 31, Those parcels that are proximate to tributary waterbodies (e.g., Cache Creek, Sacramento Slough, Anderson Creek, Walker Creek, etc.,). December 31, Those parcels that are proximate to tertiary/other waterbodies. WHEN?
