Purpose EQSs are key tools in assessing the chemical status and can therefore affect the overall classification of a water body under the WFD EQSs could be used to check whether the discharge permits into water bodies are correct settled, so that emissions do not lead to EQS exceedance within the receiving water for those substances identified at EU as Priority Substances (PSs) and Priority Hazardous Substances (PHSs) an EQS is derived at European level and thus this should be applied by all Member States
4
Mandate of the EG-EQS sub group for EQS setting (1)
To develop comprehensive guidance for deriving EQSs that: complies with section of Annex V of the WFD consists with REACH guidance as far as possible balances best science with achievability applies to Priority Substances list review To help the Commission to establish the EQSs The role of the ORG_WB sub group is … The sub-group is made of 13 participants having expertise mainly in chemistry, ecotoxicology and risk assessment in fresh and marine waters. They belong to academies or to the industry sector. Tatiana is the Temporary Rapporteur up to now.
5
Mandate of the EG-EQS sub group for EQS setting (2)
Methodology and framework to EQS setting based on existing guidance (Lepper 2005) take account of SCTEE comments (2004) and gaps identified by Bonnomet and Alvarez (2006) consistent with EU TGD (2003) and incorporate REACH guidance (RIPs) or highlight any deviations and their significance take note of related documents e.g. SETAC Workshop on Standards 2006 covers general issues, metals, organic matters and grouping of non testing methods The role of the ORG_WB sub group is … The sub-group is made of 13 participants having expertise mainly in chemistry, ecotoxicology and risk assessment in fresh and marine waters.
