2 Math Games European Erasmus+ Project No. 2015-1-DE02-KA204-002260
Executive Leader : Mr. Roland Schneidt Project Partner: Istituto Comprensivo Cena Cerveteri Project Manager: Mrs. Domelita Di Maggio Project Leader : Mrs. Laura Timpano Project Team : Daniela Montefiori, Maria Carmela Termini, Mikol Kulberg Taub, Franca Emilia Mameli, Donatella Tucci, Marianna Nani. Kick off meeting: Oct. 2015, Schrobenhausen Final meeting : 18 May 2018, Munich

3 At the very beginning The project was addressed to the adult low skilled people We tested some adult math skills on the 3rd of March 2016

8 The most relevant aims since the application
Purpose: structuring a methodology for learning mathematics through games Deliverables: Math Games Compendium Math Games Guidebook Teacher Training Course

9 Completion statement The project team produced the chapters for the compendium after having tested the games on the students; after a first draft, the chapters were done and sent to the coordinator. Also primary school students took part in this methodological  approach, through the production of a video demonstration and pictures for the compendium. Strenght: more motivation in the teachers and in the students Weakness: The translation in Italian of the book was assigned to different teachers. The consequence was the lack of homogeneity of the translation and the need of a deep supervision with the risk of not seeing some mistakes

10 Guidebook The chapters for the guidebook were assigned to the math teachers involved in the project and also the not involved ones. They tested the lessons and produced some sheets for teachers and exercises for students. Those pages were collected and inserted into the guidebook for teachers. Also the guidebook was translated in Italian.

11 Teacher Training Course
2 teachers from the school took part in the C1 event in Cyprus. The assignment for Italy was the production of a presentation about lesson planning. The presentation pointed out some theoretical issues and deepened into the more practical aspect of teaching. An example of a lesson plan form was provided. The lesson plan was presented also in Nicosia during the international conference the 29th of March 2018

14 Success of the project Beyond the positive impact of the project and the success of it we had exceeding results as compared to the expected ones. As primary school we realized that although this project had been tailored for adults, during the three years of its life, we have experimented the methodology with our primary school students. This has given proof that the methodology is really suitable for young pupils to such an extent that some teachers in our school have adopted it in their daily teaching.

15 Dissemination The dissemination happened through:
Testing session with adults - March 2016 Math Games day - May 2016 Book festival 2017 Dissemination Conference - February 2018

23 What we learned What worked: Being a first grade school we have had the chance to test the metodology during the math lessons in primary school. This easily helped us to have a clear idea to what extent the methodology can motivate students who succeed in improving their mathematical thinking through playing games and having fun. Why it worked Because it was a stimulating experience for the teachers who could renew their teaching style.
