2 Legacy A legacy is something handed down from the past. What do you want your legacy to be?

3 Find the following: Law and Government Culture Christianity
Republic Government Legal System Culture Architecture and Engineering Entertainment Art Christianity

5 Roman Law Romans believed… people were equal under the law.
judges should decide cases fairly. a person is innocent until proved guilty.

6 Roman Government Romans believed…
a republic made up of free citizens works best. a republic works best if citizens do their duty. citizens should participate in the government. citizens should work to make society better.

7 Language Romans spoke the Latin language.
Latin phrases are used throughout the world today in some jobs (scientists, doctors, and lawyers). Latin influenced the languages of French, Spanish, Italian, and others. Many English words have Latin roots.

Romans used… concrete. domes and arches in buildings. aqueducts.

10 Christianity Christianity is one of the 5 major world religions.
It began in the Roman Empire. It was adopted as the official religion of the Roman government in 300 A.D. The Roman road system allowed Christianity to spread easily and quickly.

13 Rome’s Legacies: Writing Prompt and Analysis Paragraph Template
On the back of page 7.1 in your LTN, write a paragraph that analyzes the most significant legacy from the Roman Empire. Use the template below to guide your writing. (Legacy you view as most significant) is the most important (idea or invention) from the Roman Empire because (reason you view this legacy as the most significant). In Roman times, the (legacy chosen) was (describe how or why the legacy developed or was invented). Today, we see evidence of this legacy in many ways, such as (explain one example how the legacy is seen today). Another way the (legacy chosen) can be found in today’s modern world is (explain another example of how the legacy is seen today). These examples show the importance of this Roman legacy, because without it (describe what it would be like without the legacy). In conclusion, (restate why you believe the chosen legacy is the most significant).
