The problem and crisis Homeless veterans make up about 11% of the U.S. population, which is about 31 homeless veterans for every 10,000 veterans Drug and alcohol addicted veterans are most likely to fit into this category and are at a higher risk of becoming chronically homeless.

Causes of homeless are increased due to drug and alcohol addiction, legal issues, divorce, PTSD and depression Many veterans are hesitant in getting assistance through programs because they do not want the responsibilities of rent and other expenses What are the causes

Increased focus on mental health, drug and alcohol support programs that follow up regularly, possibly by active duty personnel or national guard Identifying veterans at risk before they exit the military, support systems designed to stay in regular contact with recently discharged veterans Possible solutions

Transition programs with an emphasis on drug and alcohol counseling
Mental health and therapy should be readily available at hospitals and college campuses conclusion
