A: The ratio of cell membrane Surface Area to Cell Volume is a factor that limits cell size… AS CELLS INCREASE IN SIZE THE SA/V RATIO DECREASES. If a cell grows too big then its volume will not have enough surface area to support its needs by diffusion.
