2 Monday, February 27 Academic Vocabulary – Week 4 Clarify – verb [klar-uh-fahy] to make (an idea, statement, etc.) clear or intelligible; to  free from ambiguity Bell work: SAT Reading What gives you the most difficulty when reading the SAT reading passages? What strategies do you use or what strategies have you been given for taking this part of the test?

3 Tuesday, February 28 Academic Vocabulary – Week 4, Day 2
Re-write definition in your own words. Do not include the words already in the definition. Clarify – verb [klar-uh-fahy] to make (an idea, statement, etc.) clear or intelligible; to  free from ambiguity Bell work – Take a copy of Mini-Workout in Developing Paragraphs from the table and complete #1-3. You may write directly on the copy. You do not have to do the Unity and Coherence side today.

4 Wednesday, March 1 – Academic Vocabulary – Day 3 Choose one of the options listed and complete the Day 3 box. No Bell Work today. We will be getting started with the SAT Essay shortly. Use this time to review formatting for the essay and to look over the “Stylistic Conventions” handout from yesterday. Due Tomorrow – “Mini-Workout in Source Analysis” worksheet.

5 Thursday, March 2 Academic Vocabulary – Day 4 Choose one of the options listed and complete the Day 4 box. Bell Work- Complete the Mini-Workout in Identifying Paragraph Unity and Coherence side of the bell work paper from Tuesday. You may write directly on the copy. Due today – Mini Workout in Source Analysis (worksheet from Tuesday) Quiz tomorrow book, Section 5, SOAPStone, and SAT essay

6 25 points – Multiple Choice format 15 from 501, Section 5
10 from SAT argumentative essay and SOAPStone handout Be prepared to answer questions regarding: Paragraph unity and coherence Errors in sentence structure Subject and verb agreement Pronoun problems – agreement and shifts in tense Correct form of modifiers Parallel structure

7 “Let There Be Dark” Essay
Highlight your thesis statement. Highlight the topic sentence in each paragraph. Choose one body paragraph to be evaluated. This should be your best body paragraph. Place a next to the topic sentence in this paragraph. Make any revisions to this paragraph that you feel necessary. Due at the end of the class period.

8 Friday, March 3 Academic Vocabulary – Day 5 Choose one of the options listed and complete the Day 5 box. Bell Work- SAT Essay At this point, how well prepared for the SAT essay do you feel you are? Consider the essay format, analysis of the argument, scoring, etc. Explain! (4-5 sentences) Today’s Assignment – When you finish the test, answer the questions for the SAT Writing and Language passage. You may circle your answers on the paper.
