And, Juliet suddenly realized, one was coming. She and Annette both screamed just as Patsy leaped off the curb, brought both legs up to the sides to touch her outstretched fingers, then landed and skated off not twenty yards in front of the approaching vehicle. Irregular Verbs Instead of adding –ed, the spelling of the word changes in different tenses. I speak. Yesterday I spoke. I have spoken.

4 Invitation to Notice Adverbs are words that describe verbs, other adverbs, or adjectives. The softball team practices faithfully. (faithfully describes the verb practices) Last night the players slept quite soundly. (quite describes the adverb soundly) Yesterday’s practice was extra long. (extra describes the adjective long)

Good vs. Well Are you describing the noun or something else? He did a good job. (good is an adjective modifying the noun job) He did his job well. (well is an adverb modifying the verb did)
