"Incestuous sin! Breeding where I was bred! Father, brother, and son; bride, wife, and mother; "(64) Oedipus the King

3 Oracle This was a person or an agency, some one who was generally considered a wise person that was said to receive divine inspirations from the Gods. The Delphi Oracle was considered the most important Oracle in the Greek World.

4 Greek Gods Apollo - The God of light, eloquence and poetry
Athena - The Goddess of Wisdom, daughter of Zeus

5 The Chorus A group of men who are singing/lamenting or commenting on the action of the play. Sophocles uses the chorus in the play to advise King Oedipus, at the beginning of the play the role is more supportive "O healer of Delos, Hear! Fear is upon us. What wilt thou do?" (Sophocles 30) As the events in the play progress the role of the chorus also changes: "Forbid the thought! O by the lord of life," (44). It is almost as though the chorus becomes Oedipus stream of consciousness.
