6. What’s different about 2nd grade
Starting to reading for understanding more.
Second grade is a transition year for most students because they are expected to be more independent.
Students will be copying things from the board and from their books more.

7. Homework Homework will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
Students should reading nightly for at least 20 minutes.
On Wednesday students should bring their reading books home to read our weekly story.
We began our monthly reading logs last week. They will be due Sept.1
* If a student does not turn in homework they will clip down and walk during recess.

8. Sight Word Test and fluency reads
Students wills be given a list of words each month. They will be assessed over their monthly list on the last school day of the month. Students will be complete one fluency read in class and one fluency read at home weekly. Fluency reads are sent home on Tuesday.

The school is discouraging cupcakes for birthdays and asks that you purchase ice cream from the cafeteria or bring non edible treats.
