Check out our website! You can find this site on the St. Pius X school website, , under homework information. On this site, you can also find information and curriculum for each of the enrichment classes.

Goooooooo Math! We are using the GO MATH! curriculum
It is a very hands on approach to math and has a built in component for differentiation. All students should know their math facts and should be practicing at home nightly.
4
Spelling, Vocabulary and English
We will send home a sheet every Monday with Vocabulary words, spelling words, and choices of study activities to be completed at home. Spelling, Vocabulary and English are all wrapped into the Reading/Language Arts book. New words will be introduced on Monday.
5
Reading We generally cover one story a week.
A skill is taught/reinforced with each story. Stories should be re-read at home. Tests are given on Fridays and cover vocabulary and comprehension. As a class, we will read several novels this year: Sarah Plain and Tall, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Number the Stars, and Shiloh. Projects will also be implemented for various stories and novels.
6
Accelerated Reader We use A.R. to motivate students to read books that fit their reading level and interests. Students earn points by reading books and taking quizzes. All quizzes are taken at school. Each child is given a point goal that he/she is expected to reach each trimester. The point goal and reading level are based on the STAR reading tests given at least once every trimester. Follow your child’s AR progress at:

Social Studies and Science
The biggest part of Social Studies in the 4th grade is Kentucky history. We will also work on map skills. There are two books that will be used. The second part/book is on the regions of the United States. We cover several big units in science. We will start with Energy. Some concepts will be new this year as we are realigning the curriculum. Tests are given at the end of each unit and children will be informed at least a week before.
8
Religion Each chapter takes from 1-2 weeks to cover. We have class 3 times a week and attend mass twice a week. A test will be given at the end of each chapter. We also study about church holidays and feast days. Make sure your child is able to say the basic prayers located in the front of the book. Some prayers are also in the planners.
9
Grading Student work will come home in the Tuesday folder. We will send a letter either via or in the folder with the graded work. We use a point system. Grades will be listed as how many earned points over how many possible. We will not use percentages on the papers, but will use them on the report card and progress reports.
10
Behavior We use a website called Class DOJO to track classroom behavior, both positive and negative. Students receive points that they will use to earn incentives. Students do not have behavior cards in the planner. You can check the DOJO points from home. You should have received a letter explaining how to do this. Detentions may be given if deemed necessary.
